How much protein should I consume daily? A very common question that has a growing amount of research to provide answers. One big thing that we focus on with @PhysiqueDevelopment clients is protein per meal. Yes, total protein consumption throughout the day is going to be the most important. But, hitting 150, 180, 200+ grams of protein daily can be a little daunting. That said, breaking it down meal to meal & ensuring through free meals/intuitive days that we have protein at each meal is tremendously helpful for satiation purposes, as well as, maximizing recovery & building muscle. Research provides us with some guidelines for per meal protein consumption to maximize muscle protein synthesis. (MPS) The minimum threshold is ~0.24g/kg of body mass. Ex. For a 200lb person, this would be ~22g per meal. We encourage our clients to be between ~0.24-0.6g/kg of body mass for protein consumed per meal depending on their total protein gaol for the day to maximize MPS. If you’re struggling to hit your protein, break it down into individual meals. It doesn’t *have to be* 5 or 6 meals, just the amount that fits into your schedule. Disperse the protein evenly throughout those meals. If the quantity per meal is too daunting, go ahead & add another meal/snack to allow for a more comfortable allotment. There is not ONE way to do this. You want to take the research & see how it can be applied to your life. Take what fits & leave what doesn’t.
