🌟Hey everyone, I recently came across a comment on my Instagram post about the article I was featured in for Black Love. The comment said, "Congratulations, but I never knew that weight loss could change your whole skin complexion." While it might seem like a shady comment, it actually brings up an important topic that I want to discuss with you today. πŸ’« Over the past 10 years, since I lost 100 pounds, I've received many comments like this one. People often wonder why my skin color appears to have changed from the photos of me at my heaviest weight compared to now. The truth is, there's a medical condition called acanthosis nigricans that caused this change in my skin color. πŸ‘©πŸΏ Acanthosis nigricans is a condition that many people, especially people of color, develop when dealing with insulin resistance. For me, it started as a darkness around my neck and eventually spread to my eyelids, the creases of my elbows, and other creases in my body. Growing up and before reaching my heaviest weight, my skin had never been the color you see in those old photos. I had always been the color I am now. 🀎Concerned about the changes in my skin, I went to a dermatologist to find out what was going on. The dermatologist referred me to my primary care doctor for a blood test, which determined that I was pre-diabetic. This pre-diabetic state was the reason for the changes in my skin color. ⚠️ If you notice any unusual darkening of your skin along your neck, eyelids, or other areas, it may not just be a skin issue. It could be an indication of an internal problem, such as insulin resistance or pre-diabetes. Don't hesitate to consult with a healthcare professional to get the proper diagnosis and treatment. πŸ“° If you found this video informative and helpful, I encourage you to read the full article about my weight loss journey and transformation on Black Love.
