Giddiness occurring while standing up from sitting position, or getting up from bed associated with blurring of vision, these can be a result of Low Blood Pressure, or Low Blood Hemoglobin, or Blood volume being low. Most of the times, all these three could be occurring in unison causing more problems. If you look at the normal physiology, normal dynamics of the blood, when you lie down or sit up, the blood is predominantly driven to the lower part of the body guided by the gravity. When you stand up from sitting position or lying down position, blood dynamics change in such a way that the blood has to be rushed up to the brain against the gravity. This takes a fraction of second, that a normal person can tolerate and wouldn’t feel any difference, brain gets the blood supply throughout this process. Wherein a person with lower Blood Pressure, lower Hemoglobin, lower blood volume, or any combination of these, the same process, the redistribution of blood takes a little longer than that fraction, during which time the vital organs, the brain and the heart, they wouldn’t be receiving enough blood supply. This leads to the production of the Vertigo. If you have such symptoms, you should look for your BP, Hemoglobin levels need to be measured, if there is any deficiency, they need to be corrected. Simple lifestyle modification, having lot more of liquids and healthy diet, adequate supplementation of iron, vitamins, can circumvent this problem. If giddiness lasts longer than a few seconds, in spite of getting up and stabilizing yourself, giddiness persists or it happens every time you move your head or neck, then you should consult a specialist.
