Have you ever heard someone say "Low carb diets are the best way to lose fat." Let’s talk about why this is not true. A. One size doesn’t fit all. B. While it may be great for those that are less active, the more active you are, the more going low carb may sabotage your fat loss results. Carbs are an immediate fuel source when we are training intensely to help us push harder so we can see better results from our workouts. And carbs are protein-sparing, creating that anabolic environment to help us build and retain lean muscle mass while even in a calorie deficit to lose fat. Doing what we can to retain lean muscle during our weight loss journey is key to help us avoid metabolic adaptations that can sabotage our long-term success. So while going low carb can be attractive as it can lead to quick losses on the scale, this is not fat being lost faster. It’s glycogen stores being depleted and water weight being lost. Stop forcing yourself to cut carbs especially if you’re training hard!
