Lifting heavy is a sport and not optimal for athletes, martial artists or even bodybuilders. In the end, health and longevity is what matter the most. Unless you are a strength athlete looking to compete in different lifts, there is no need to lift heavy whatsoever. And it's not just about lifting heavy: any form of ego training can have negative effects whether it's going crazy with bodyweight skills or heavy weights. As an athlete, martial artist or functional lifter, you will get better results with light weights and by adopting a proper methodology that focuses on tempo, form, precision, mobility and stability. This is ultimately what I teach.
