I think I found my first Usnea! Usnea, also known as Old Man’s Beard, is a lichen-like structure of algae and fungus that grows in deciduous trees (trees that lose their leaves). It has long been used in traditional medicine for urinary ailments, inflammation and wounds of the mouth, to sooth sore throats, reduce pain/fever, and aid in weight loss. I’ll probably post a follow up video once I can get a closer inspection on this fun little lichen.
