Hey, ladies in your late 30s and 40s... You may have noticed that things are different with your hormones and body composition… Maybe you’ve even gained weight, but HAVEN’T DONE ANYTHING DIFFERENTLY with your diet and exercise. Girl, you are NOT alone. And if you’ve subscribed to the… ▶️Cut carbs ▶️Intermittent fast ▶️Do more HIIT … fat loss equation, you’re probably struggling more than ever! 🥴 So, how did we get to this place? 👉This advice is literally the exact opposite of what we should recommend to women in perimenopause! And I bet you’re wondering… where is this weight coming from? Let me explain… Our bodies want to maintain balance, but as we age our hormones begin to slow down. Basically, we don’t have a big ol’ hormone buffer to deal with and tolerate stress anymore. Example: Remember being 22 years old and staying out all night, enjoying cocktails and pizza, and still being able to lose 10 pounds before a vacation? Your body (and hormones) could handle that stress back then, but not now. So how do most women combat weight gain? They panic and eat less and exercise more, which is STRESSFUL on the body and increases our cortisol (stress hormone). Increased cortisol, especially when chronic, leads to inflammation and insulin resistance because of estrogen changes and imbalance. (Progesterone will tank in times of stress leading to further imbalance.) Once hormones get out of balance, you might start to see thyroid and metabolic issues, pre-diabetes, etc., which makes fat loss even more difficult. Basically, we aren’t eating enough or appropriately (not enough protein, fiber, and whole, unprocessed foods) to nourish our bodies. If you want to dig yourself out of a hole and stop this damaging cycle sooner than later, the key is to STOP DIETING. Our hormones change as we age, which means we need to change our approach!
