However, according to a paper published in the Journal of American Academy of Physician Assistants, there is no evidence to support that gluten-free diet is responsible for successful weight loss. Nutritionists point out there are only 3 cases when one should follow a gluten-free diet, and they are. Wheat allergy Celiac disease Non-celiac gluten sensitivity (NCGS) Although shunning gluten means you can't eat pizza, cookies, pastries and other items it doesn't necessarily mean you can't pile on pounds. In fact, some people don't consume gluten and are still obese. This happens because swapping for gluten-free items isn't as beneficial because they usually contain just as many or even more calories and sugar as gluten counterparts.
