Homemade Dog Food Our chihuahua/ rat terrier, Lexi, suffers from pancreatic bouts. Our vet recommended this diet and it's worked wonders for her. I recommend checking the label of regular dog food to see the amount you should feed your dog. Lexi weighs 13 - 15 pounds and she eats a serving of 1/2 a cup, three times a day. INGREDIENTS: *Measurements are uncooked: 3-lbs of lean ground turkey 2-cups of white rice 16oz frozen sweet peas bag 4-6x Malanga (you can also use potato) Dog Pancreatic Diet Recipe DIRECTIONS: Cook Rice ° 2 cups of white rice (can substitute for brown) ° 4 cups of water If cooking stove top: ° Bring 4 cups of water to boil ° Add 2 cups of rice ° Cover & lower heat to Low ° Set timer for 30-mins ° Do not undercover until time is up Cook Root ° Peel & chop 4 - 5 malangas (can substitute for potatoes) ° Boil until tender ° Mash Cook Turkey The leaner the better! ° Cook until all liquid is evaporated and it's fully cooked Steam Peas Originally we bought frozen "peas & carrots" but we noticed her poop was still soft & a tad orange. Once we started buying just "sweet peas" (no carrots) her poop has been prefect. ° Steam according to package ° Mash (mashed helps digestion) Combine all ingredients well. Store in zip-lock bags. We separate this batch into 4 quart sized zip lock bags; keep one in the fridge & freeze the other 3 until needed. Microwave to remove chill (touch with hands to make sure it's not hot) and serve.
