Does Being Overweight Cause Sleep Apnea? | (YES but also NO??) [sUOwiuUMl]
Being overweight can cause sleep apnea. But for many cases, people with extremely mild sleep apnea only notice sleep apnea symptom's when they become overweight. Which came first - the chicken or the egg? Its the same with sleep apnea. A reduction in weight by 10-15% has the potential to decrease the severity of Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA) by half among moderately obese individuals. Despite the significant improvements weight loss can offer for OSA, it typically does not result in a complete cure. Many individuals with sleep apnea may still require supplementary treatments. People with sleep apnea have a much higher chance of gaining weight. And people with obesity also have a higher chance of getting sleep apnea. AND being overweight often makes sleep apnea worse. EVERY case is different.
