We mutually agreed that would be best for him and for the team. Daniel has been a great representative of our organization, first class in every way. His handling of this situation yesterday exemplifies just that. We are all disappointed in how things have worked out. We hold Daniel in high regard and have a great appreciation for him. We wish him nothing but the best in the future. ——————- Daniel Jones Addresses Benching, Future After Giants Demotion and still processing whether he will stay on team the rest of the season On Thursday, Daniel Jones spoke publicly for the first time since the New York Giants announced his benching in favor of rookie quarterback Tommy DeVito. Jones opened his press conference by reflecting on his tenure with the team, calling his time as a Giant “a dream come true” and acknowledging his shortcomings. “I did not play well enough consistently enough to help the team get results,” Jones admitted. Despite the disappointment, the quarterback maintained optimism about his career moving forward, stating, “I’m excited for the next opportunity and know there’s a lot of good football in front of me.” However, Jones’s immediate future with the Giants seems bleak. Demoted to fourth-string, the former starter was spotted playing scout team safety at Thursday’s practice. Although the team cannot bar him from participating while he remains on the roster, Jones hinted that he may not stick around for the remainder of the season. “I think I’m still kinda processing,” Jones said when asked about his plans. “For now, I’m doing the best I can to help Tommy prepare, help the team prepare. That’s what I’m going to do right now.” The decision to bench Jones stems from a combination of performance issues and financial considerations. With a significant injury guarantee in his contract for next season, the Giants appear unwilling to risk further liabilities. While Jones expressed a strong desire to return to the field, the likelihood of that happening in a Giants uniform is slim. “I badly want to play,” Jones shared, acknowledging discussions with the team about his role moving forward. As the 2024 season approaches, it seems evident that Jones’s next snaps will come with a different team. For now, Jones remains a part of the Giants’ roster, albeit in a diminished capacity, as he supports DeVito and the team in any way he can. QB TOMMY DEVITO can make season debut in Week 12.
