There is a pretty good general awareness of how important calcium is to our bone health, and a lot of people know that to ensure adequate calcium storage in the bones one needs to obtain Magnesium from our diet, and be exposed to sunlight in order to produce VitaminD. Both Magnesium and VitD are essential for the regulation of bone density through Calcium metabolism. What many poeple do not know, is that Boron – a trace mineral – is essential for the efficient operation of VitD, and for adequate absorption of dietary Magnesium. Boron occurs naturally in most foods, but is sometimes low as it is deficient in soil after many years of farming without adequate replenishment of minerals. Thus it is worth considering the possibility that you might need to increase your boron intake, either by eating more avocadoes and almonds, or by including a supplement if you suffer from Osteopenia, Osteoporosis or Osteoarthritis. Adequate boron facilitates bone repair & maintenance, wound healing, VitD functioning and Magnesium absorption. It also contributes to the lowering of inflammation (particularly in and around the bones) and improves brain function.
