Why is it so hard to stay on bipolar medication? Here are the three main reasons. 1. Side-effects. Bipolar medications come with severe side-effects. They include weight gain, lack of energy, loss of motivation and many more. I have experienced a majority of these side-effects and understand why it's hard to stay on a bipolar treatment that is supposed to make you feel better but does the opposite. 2. Shame makes it hard to stay on bipolar medication. People fear others will judge them if they find out that they’re taking bipolar medication. The important thing here is that your mental health is a priority, not other people’s biases about medication for bipolar disorder. 3. Lack of awareness and knowledge about medications for bipolar 1 and bipolar 2. Those of us living with bipolar disorder constantly hear about alternative treatments and why taking bipolar medications is wrong. So we are left second-guessing ourselves on whether our treatment is right or wrong. That’s why it’s so important that we do the proper research to make decisions about our treatment. It has taken a long time for me to find the right routine of bipolar medication, but it was worth it.
